Integrating biomedical rigor with presence, creativity, and connection.
I want to help you. For this to happen, I need to know who you are and why you are coming to see me; what you find meaningful, when you feel nourished, and what a fulfilling life looks and feels like for you.
As a psychiatrist, I can offer diagnostic clarity, if we decide this might be helpful. Together we will decide what to do, considering the risks, benefits, and alternatives of different types of care. Treatment may include psychotherapy, medication, ketamine assisted psychotherapy, breathwork, or referral to other forms of interventional psychiatry (TMS, ECT, etc) or medical care.
My approach to medications is evidence based, using the most up to date guidelines available, including information on supplements, diet, and lifestyle modification. I am a careful and conservative prescriber and will not begin a medication unless we both agree that it is safe and appropriate for your life and your care. Likewise, I may encourage tapering off a medication you are already on, or thinking together about alternatives to medication altogether.
My approach to therapy is primarily psychodynamic and informed by psychoanalytic concepts. This means we work from your own life history, exploring relationships and patterns that contribute to your psychology. Our minds are part of our bodies, and so we may explore the connections between your physical experience and mental health, including experiences of both pain and pleasure, weakness and strength.
I’m deeply inspired by creative practices as a way to plumb and enliven the mind, and may integrate art, music, movement, or story-telling practices when appropriate.
Finally, I have training in multiple evidenced-based modalities (Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, etc.) as well as integrative techniques like Hologenic Breathwork that we can utilize as needed.
I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and have a special interest in trauma, somatic manifestations of stress, mood and anxiety disorders, chronic illness, personal and spiritual transition, altered states of consciousness, psychotic episodes, gender and sexual minority experience, relationships, and palliative psychiatry.
I am able to provide consultation for gender alignment surgeries and end-of-life care.
